Eric Hillenbrand, a retail broker who is helping Dunkin' Donuts find up to 80 store sites in the Indianapolis area, admires the results at the first one to open.
It's a former bank branch in Carmel, converted into an unmistakable, orange-hued restaurant a la Dunkin' with outdoor patio, big plate-glass windows and a drive-up that wraps around the building.
"This is what I like," Hillenbrand says, as a pickup rolls by. "Seeing a guy come through the drive-through already taking a bite out of his doughnut."
If Canton, Mass.-based Dunkin' Donuts succeeds in its bold bid to take Indianapolis by sugary storm, while facing entrenched competition from Starbucks and almost every corner convenience store, a big bite of the credit will go to Hillenbrand.
The red-haired, 46-year-old is one of two local brokers charged with ferreting out prime sites to serve Dunkin's doughnut-gobbling customers in the Indianapolis area.
